Summary: Great mag, but Amazon deal is not the best
Comment: This is by far my favorite bike magazine. US based, good review of trails and a funny "maxim/rolling stone" gonzo style of writing. The best bike poem I've ever read was in here ("I hate dirt")

But Barnes has a 50% better price than this one. The actual Bike mag website will not allow you to subscribe directly for some strange reason... I don't think they know about that.

Comment: I was excited to order this magazine, but I am still waiting to receive the first issue from my subscription.... It has been nearly 8 weeks and still nothing in the mail.

Summary: Great photos
Comment: I received this for years as a companion benefit to an organized ride and the reading material is blase at best. The articles are ok but nothing worth seeking out. However, the photos are nothing short of spectacular. Inside you'll find some of the most draw-droping-awe-inspiring pictures of man man riding those human body fueled machines through some of the most picturesque settings that you will want to go out and ride. It is no wonder cyclists love to commune with nature via adrenaline on a two wheel adventure. Get it for the pictures and the motivation to get out and ride!

Summary: The magazine with a soul
Comment: BIKE is obviously going to polarize opinions. In my case its simply the only mountain bike magazine I will ever buy (ok, save for a copy of dirt rag once in a while). The articles are personal and insightful stories that you'll smile and relate to if you've been riding for some time and that will intrigue and inspire you if you haven't.

It's known amongst its peers as 'the picture-book magazine' and with good reason - the photographs are plentiful, beautiful and inspiring. This is the magazine for people who love to ride, no matter what they're riding - for people who simply have an ingrained affinity for spinning pedals and tires rolling along dirt.

This isn't a mag for the ride-to-be-cool types, people who are in it for the next trick gadget. Its is the magazine for people who understand riding as a soulful thing. Don't expect 5 page, analytical bike reviews or 10 bike suspension shootouts, this isn't that kind of mag. Do expect prose on bikes and life, by people who can really write. Expect humour and occasionally downright silliness. Expect the best bike photography you'll ever see (there's a photo annual published once a year, by the way).

I've got a feeling I've repeated myself a few times in one way or another here, but truely - if you really love to ride you ought to love BIKE.

Summary: Poorly written, immature drivel
Comment: I have hopefully read through many issues of BIKE only to be disappointed over and over by the strange adolescent perspective of the editorial content. The reader will find a scant amount of useful information about mountain biking, combined with plenty of useless prose espousing a bizarre attitude, and full-page photos for filler.

Although I am and have been an avid mountain biker for years, who consumes everything "mountain bike", reading BIKE magazine leaves me with such a sour taste, that I hope others looking to get into the sport don't pick up the magazine. I'm surprised it can sustain even its miniscule circulation level. It's a real turn off.

There are three other biking magazines that are worth considering for the mountain biker: MOUNTAIN BIKE, MOUNTAIN BIKE ACTION, and BICYCLING, (which is about both road and mountain biking). They are all well balanced but different windows into one of the most fun, healthy, and accessible sports than can be pursued for a lifetime.
