Customer Rating: Summary: If you hate earbuds, these are a great alternative Comment: With a partial hearing impairment, most affordable earbuds are useless to me, even if they'll stay in my ear. So when I found this retractable pair, I immediately bought them. They have great sound quality and give me the volume output I need, while staying in place comfortably. When I'm done, I just press the buttons and let the cord zip back in place for a compact little package I can slip into a purse or pocket and go on my merry way. The reason I don't give this 5 stars is that eventually the wire wears out and the speakers stop working, but I get about 3 to 4 years of usage out of each pair. Small enough to be sleek and not dorky, and loud enough that I can hear them, it's an overall great value. Toss those buds in the trash, and give your ears a treat.
Customer Rating: Summary: So far, mostly good Comment: I like them a lot, the sound is good and I LOVE the retractable cords. I am a little concerned about the thickness of the cord though and I would have prefered a 90 degree plug. They are really nice if you are using them while moving around. They fit into a pocket with ease.
However, they are not comfortable to use for long periods of time. I tried to wear them at work, but after several hours of use, the clips hurt my ears. So I use the Sony MDR-Q22LP model for long periods of time.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great headphones, but the cable is too short Comment: I really like these headphones. Pros: They stay on your ears well, the reel mechanism (for winding the cable up inside the 'phones) is resilient, and the cable is extremely thin. Oh, and the sound quality seems fantastic to me, though I'm no audiophile.
Cons: The picture of this product shows white headphones, but I was shipped black ones (would have preferred the white) -- not too big a deal, I guess. Here's the most irritating drawback: The cable that goes from the headphones to the jack is too short! I cannot use these to listen to my iPod nano with it in my pants pocket; the cable, fully extended, doesn't let the nano reach the end of the pocket and the weight of the device pulls the left headphone off my ear as I walk. But I'm 6'2"; if you're 5'8" or shorter this probably won't be an issue for you. You could also keep your MP3 player higher than your waist, which is what I do (but it's not ideal).
Customer Rating: Summary: Retractable Cord Cool, Fit is Cool, Sound Quality Okay, But One Serious Design Flaw!, Comment: PROS:
-Retractible cord is very functional and very cool.
-Fit is also functional as well and comfortable. I wear glasses and most earphones these style that hang on your ears usually never work with glasses on, but these do for some reason. Also the spring lock feature works fairly well to keep the hook taught on your ears without the wobble you usually get from these design.
-In silent environments, you can hear that the sound quality is pretty even and good. Anything louder than your library and you don't hear much.
-Colors and options. I've seen like 9 different color combos for these on the web. In Japan one guy or company actually fit a micro SD Card MP3 player into one of the earcups so you get an all-in-one package.
-Really good build quality. Good value!
CONS:
-The reason I stopped using these is the NYC Subway. Outside of the library or morgue these earphones let in every sound that is around you and the music you want to hear fades below everything else. Before buying these, I had Sony Fontopia MDR in-ear buds (which sealed out all the outside noise) and those caused an ear infection so I had to get over the ear style headphones and I got these. So immediately when I wore these I was VERY DISSAPPOINTED when I realized how loud everything else was during my commute. The sound quality is pretty good, but the design lets in too much noise to be able to enjoy what you're playing.
-I wished the foam bits were removable or replacable with something that is more seal-able (like rubber) which would be good for keeping outside sound out.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great earphones for the iPhone Comment: Not sure why the write-ups don't say anything about it, but the connector requires no adapter to work with the iPhone. For me, the earbuds that come with the iPhone don't fit all that well, but these fit perfectly and produce excellent sound quality. And the retractable cord means you never have to worry about these things getting tangled up in your pocket or gearbag. Highly recommended!
