Customer Rating: Summary: This book was awful! Comment: Me, a 13 year old, read this with my 12 year old friend and the whole time we were LAUGHING. The "cool slang" was terrible, and most of the stuff in there seemed to be aiming towards middle schoolers with the mentality of elementary schoolers. Of course, not everything was bad. But there was just enough of things that made me laugh out loud to make it a bad book. For example, an insult he gives is: "May the ice cubes from a 100 ice trays fill your bra!"
Yeah, a good insult if you want to be made fun of even MORE.
Also, the section on periods barely touches the surface. Basically it says talk to an adult because they don't know how comfortable people are with that information. Come on, it's The big book of GIRL stuff. You can talk about periods!
Overall, I can't see why this got so many great reviews. That made me literally lol.
Customer Rating: Summary: A good book to get in a girl's good books! Comment: The 8th birthday of my overseas friend's daughter was approaching, so I was facing the ordeal of finding an appropriate (and sendable) gift for a young girl in a different country, hardly having knowledge of current US children's books (nor of children in general, as a matter of fact). I started browsing Amazon and bumped into this book (don't ask me how), and based on the reviews I decided to go for it.
This is what her mom & my friend, wrote to me after its arrival:
"She LOVES the book. It's funny because she's a really good reader, but she would still rather have me read chapters to her at night instead of reading silently on her own... but this book is a big exception. It came in the mail on Saturday, and she has spent every night since then (except last night, when she was too partied out to do anything but fall asleep) sitting up in her bed reading like crazy. You picked the exact perfect thing for her (even though it's hard for me to believe that she's already old enough for that sort of thing-- how did this happen?)."
I don't know what EXACTLY is written in this book, but I can tell you, I am really tempted to get a copy myself now!
Customer Rating: Summary: A great holiday gift Comment: I got this book for my 12 year old daughter for Christmas. She hasn't put it down since the day she got it. I am getting lots of fun questions like "Do we have any henna powder?", which makes me laugh (who on earth has henna powder handy).
There are lots of laughs, and good suggestions for girls this age. I highly recommend the book.
Customer Rating: Summary: 10 year old niece loved this!!! Comment: Wasn't sure what to buy for my niece but this was a big hit. With all the new Christmas stuff she kept going back to look through this book.
Customer Rating: Summary: This is an AWESOME book! Comment: The Big Book of Girl Stuff by Bart King is an excellent book for girls ages 8 to 15. It is a fabulous book. It offers great tips on things such as friendship, babysitting, boys and more! It teaches girls to be creative. (A popular sequel to the book is The Big Book of Boy Stuff.) But sorry boys, we are not reviewing the book for YOU! Bart King offers great advice as well as that little touch of humor that makes a book a wonderful experience to read. I loved this book, me having read it at least 3 times! This book is a great source for girls. From changing diapers to your first crush, this book won't let you down! Great present for Christmas also!
By Isabel, age 9 NY, NY.
