Customer Rating: Summary: The best US Bike Publication Comment: If you like bikes you will like this magazine. It is race orientated and depending on the season you will get coverage of road racing, cyclocross and mountain bike racing. They do emphasize American riders but that only makes sense. There are technical articles as well and and there is an annual Buyer's Guide that is excellent. They have recently really stepped up their game. I really look forward to each issue and read it pretty much cover to cover and generally more than once.
Customer Rating: Summary: Cycling in America Comment: VeloNews is right up there with Cycle Sport as far as keeping the American bike enthusiast up on what is going on in the professioanl race ranks. However it tends to be broader in perspective and highlights mostly American races which by the way are not as "big" as the European races. The exception is The Amgen Tour of California which is slowly making it 's way into a major world class bike race. The best cyclists race in Europe therefore the best races are in Europe. Besides that's where all the doping scandals originated which makes for good juiced print! Anyway the news in VeloNews is a little late on news but heck if you can't get any information on American races it's right on time! Thank God for the internet. Velonews does have oustanding coverage of the Tour de France and is complete with maps, history and complete course coverage accompanied by favorites interviews. The photography and general content is very good but the nod goes to Cycle Sportas being a superior magazine for the hard core cycling fan. This is not the type of magazine the weekend warrior who just bought a new Schwinn would like but rather for those who are into Cervelos or Trek Madones, who can distinguish between Basso and Bass fishing and live to ride or is it ride to live?
Customer Rating: Summary: great magazine...kind of slow to start subscription Comment: my husband loves velonews. i got him a subscription last year through amazon as a present. it took a couple months for it to start up. i thought that a renewal would be easier but apparently not. delivery still took a while to pick up. once it gets going though, no problem. price was good and it was very easy to do so overall we're pleased.
Customer Rating: Summary: VeloNews is Cycling's #1 publication Comment: Ride a bike? It doesn't matter if it's Mountain, Road or Cyclocross. Race to the top of the hill or to the next stop sign? Or maybe just against yourself and your cycling computer's best? You at least realize that cycling is, in fact, the most physically demanding, unforgiving, sport on the face of the planet. This is the publication for you. Reviewer number uno on this review site says that "VeloNews" is repetitive and that you can get the same info in other places. Like where? "Cycle Sport America"? With 500 pages of coverage? Where's the MTB and Cyclocross news? Or is he/she suggesting you slog through the myriad of websites out there, like, hmmm, "PezCycling.com" Yeah, let's go through those team rosters and girlie pix just one more time, huh? And "Velonews" is repetitive? C'mon dude, are you Phil Ligget or Paul Sherwin (God bless 'em) or do you work as an editor for "Cycle Sport"? "VeloNews" is the premiere cycling publication out there. EVERYBODY KNOWS THAT. Even after Lance has left the building.
Customer Rating: Summary: Mediocre Coverage Comment: Big publication. Little unique coverage. The mag is very repetitive and lacking. Almost no womens coverage. Gee, are they not very hard working cycling athletes as well? The same big name riders are always mentioned. Definetly a US publication, not covering an international sport. May have done more harm than good to cycling with the covers and article structure in 2005 having a lopsided, somewhat sensationalized, view of the doping issue. I wouldn't subscribe again. There are too many other good to excellent choices available.
