Customer Rating: Summary: Fun, but on the difficult side for beginners. Comment: An enjoyable music game, but a little tough on Guitar Hero newbies.
The wireless controller is excellent; despite hearing about numerous issues with the Wireless Les Paul around the Internet, I went ahead and got this Bundle. I'm glad I did so far, no problems after a month, but I'm knocking on wood.
I especially like the raised bit on the surface of the yellow fret button. It really helps you know where your hand is on the controller, especially when you transition up and down between the higher green and lower orange fret buttons.
As far as the game goes, I'll admit I'm not a big fan of the majority of the tracks. This makes it less enjoyable to have to play through songs I don't really like; and don't feel that fun to play. This is totally subjective though, you can check the list of songs in the game ahead of time to see if most of them are your bag.
The minigames and battle mode is very fun, and a nice way to add to the videogame aspect.
The note chart is bit busy compared to Rock Band's. I also don't like the circular timing markers, but like my statemnt about the tracks, this is a minor and subjective issue; and most likely a non-issue for a veteran of the series.
All in all this is good game, and the co-op aspect is nice. Bloc Party's Helicopter is just too much fun to play.
Customer Rating: Summary: great game, great deal Comment: packaging and game was like new even though there was a big discount due to the packaging being damaged.
Customer Rating: Summary: Without the original developers Guitar Hero is nothing Comment: Guitar Hero and Guitar Hero II are incredible games, but the original software developer, Harmonix, left the series and started making Rock Band (see Xbox 360 Rock Band Special Edition) instead. Neversoft took over as developer for the Guitar Hero series, starting with this game.
The thing about Harmonix is that the people who started it, as well as almost everyone who works there, are seasoned, professional musicians, and as a company they have been working on music games and interactive music experiences for well over a decade. They know how to make a game like this. Neversoft is made up of traditional video game developers. They were always very good at what they did in the past (Tony Hawk and Spider-Man games), but they know nothing about music, and it shows.
The "charting" (i.e. how the songs were converted into the series of colored "gems" you have to hit when you play the game) in Guitar Hero III is very poor. I doubt that the people who did it have ever played a guitar in their life. There are some songs that are in both Guitar Hero III and Rock Band, and you can find YouTube videos comparing the charts side by side. If you watch these and you have the slightest inkling of how a guitar is actually played, you'll see that the Guitar Hero III charts just don't make any sense at all.
I think the most annoying thing to me was the incessant in-game advertising. Any advertising/sponsorship in Rock Band is either for products that are directly related to professional rock music or for rum (which is still pretty closely related :-) ). Not for Pontiac, or Axe body spray, or Red Bull, or any of the other nonsense in Guitar Hero III. The very last straw for me was when I noticed I was getting BRAND NEW irrelevant in-game ads that it must have gotten from Xbox Live. "Watch Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles!" No thanks, and no thanks to this game.
I bought both this and Xbox 360 Rock Band Special Edition a little before Christmas 2007. I did play them both for a little while, but it became clear pretty quickly, for all the reasons I mentioned above and more, that Rock Band was far and away the superior and more enjoyable game. I still use the guitar I got with this bundle for playing Guitar Hero II wirelessly, but the game itself sits shunned and unused. I hate it so much I won't even sell it, lest I be partially responsible for somebody else playing it.
Buy Rock Band 2 instead.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great Purchase Comment: I bought the Guitar Hero 3 Bundle as a gift for my boyfriend's bday. He absolutely loves it. It was a great price and the product works great. A wonderful purchase and I couldn't have been happier with it.
Customer Rating: Summary: Guitar Hero 3 review Comment: I've owned the game before only it was the PS2 version. Aside from the ability to download songs it is no different. Game is good fun for anyone of any skill level
