Summary: Not quite what it was but still worth it...
Comment: Doesn't quite live up to the reputation it established early on but this is still a good magazine.In its first few years, this was THE magazine to have if you were a football coach. Unbelievable, in the depth, professionalism and quality presentation of articles it was the closest thing we ever had to professional journal. Even Bill "The Genius" Walsh sat proudly on the masthead and contributed a detailed article. The only thing missing that kept it from becoming the football coaches equivalent of the New England Journal of Medicine was the open peer review and critique.
Something was lost however when they switched to a monthly publishing schedule and switched publishing companies. Many of the great authors and contributors began to leave or stopped writing. While there are still great x and o articles that keep coaches on the cutting edge of the game ,there was a dissappointing rise in fluff articles that gave us newspaper style reports on coaching personalities and programs versus the details into what make their programs great. While some of the advertising sponsor's articles still have good info they seem to be more advertisment for a product than overally useful information that you can use.
Still there is enough here to get a subscription and judge for yourself, but BE SURE TO GET YOUR HANDS ON ANY PAST ISSUES ESPECIALLY THE AMERICAN FOOTBALL QUARTERLY ISSUES.
